The well-known health care chain announced Wednesday it will open its second Melbourne location — at Melbourne Square mall — later this year.

LA Fitness also has a location at Lake Washington and Wickham roads in Melbourne and has submitted plans for a gym in West Melbourne.

"We are truly pleased to announce LA Fitness as the latest addition to Melbourne Square," Elyse Berger, director of marketing and business development at Melbourne Square said in a news release. "This new concept will certainly complement the diverse mix of tenants at Melbourne Square, as well as increase the frequency and duration of our guests' experience at the center."

LA Fitness's plan for Melbourne Square calls for a 36,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility on the New Haven side of the mall, next to Dick's Sporting Goods.

The club will feature cardio areas designed for comfort and equipped with more than 70 state-of-the-art machines, an aerobics studio with group fitness classes, a separate indoor cycling studio, a wide assortment of free weights and strength equipment, an indoor basketball court, a 25-yard indoor lap pool, locker rooms with saunas, and "Kids Klub" babysitting (for additional charge).

Founded in 1984, the California fitness company is considered one of the fastest-growing health club chains in the United States and currently has more than 580 locations in 24 states and Canada.
